SHAMA AMALEAN | coo at thinx

Shama Amalean is Chief Operating Officer of Thinx, the revolutionary period and pee-proof underwear company. In 2015, Time magazine recognized Thinx underwear as one of the “best 25 inventions.” In her capacity as COO, Shama is responsible for driving strategy, sales, product and supply chain. Shama held a key role in Thinx’s transition from a startup to a growth stage company, overseeing operations at a time when Thinx sales grew exponentially.

Prior to joining Thinx, Shama was based out of Dubai, where she was a Merchant for Bath and Body Works International, supporting 10 countries in the Middle East. Previously, she worked in product development and merchandising for L Brands (formerly Limited Brands). Shama received her post-secondary education in England and France. She lives in Brooklyn, is an avid swimmer and a TRX instructor in her spare time. 

 

TYLER GAGE | co-FOUNDer at runa

Tyler Gage has spent the last 12 years studying with indigenous elders in the Amazon rainforest, venturing far from his suburban roots at the age of 20. After graduating from Brown University, Tyler turned down a Fulbright grant to start RUNA, a social enterprise that makes energizing beverages with guayusa, a rare Amazonian leaf, and improves livelihoods for 3,000 indigenous farming families in Ecuador.

Tyler was named a Forbes “30 Under 30 Entrepreneur” and winner of both the Big Apple Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the Specialty Food Association's Citizen Leader of the Year Award.  ABC Nightline, National Geographic and Richard Branson's book Screw Business As Usual have all featured Tyler for his unique and powerful approach to building businesses and creating social good. Tyler currently lives in Bellingham, Washington with his wife Michelle and enjoys boxing, yoga, riding his unicycle and studying ethnobotany.

MATTHEW GLOTZBACH | CEO at Quizlet, previous vp at youtube

Matthew Glotzbach is the CEO of Quizlet, a global consumer learning company whose mission is to help people practice and master whatever they are learning.  He has over 20 years of experience in consumer and enterprise technology, product strategy, product management, marketing and sales.

Prior to joining Quizlet, Matthew was the Vice President of product management at YouTube, responsible for YouTube's Subscription and Music business and a member of the YouTube executive leadership team.  He formerly lead the global Creator product and technology direction and served as the Managing Director of YouTube in Europe, Middle East and Africa where he was responsible for the strategy, development and management of YouTube’s business and product direction.  

Previously, he lead the Apps and Enterprise product divisions within Google. where he was responsible for the strategy, development and management of Google's Enterprise line of products.  In 2007 he launched Google Apps, Google's cloud computing suite for business. In the same year he played a key role in the acquisition of the security and compliance company Postini, Google's third largest acquisition ever.  As the head of Google's Enterprise search business, he has led the development of the Google Search Appliance, and is responsible for launching the Google Mini and Google Site Search. In 2007 he launched Google Apps, Google's cloud computing suite for business.

 

Alaa murabit | sustainable development goals global advocate

Alaa Murabit is one of 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Global Advocates, a United Nations High-Level Commissioner for Health Employment and Economic Growth, a TED speaker, founder of VLW, co-founder of Omnis Institute and a MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow. She was recently named a 2017 Forbes 30 Under 30, an Aspen Institute Spotlight Health Scholar for her work in global health policy and a Harvard University Law 2017 “Woman Inspiring Change”. Her TED Talk was named “TED Talk of the Day” and one of four “moving TED Talks to watch right now” by The New York Times.

Nicknamed the “Libyan Doogie Howser” by Jon Stewart, Alaa was driven by her desire to create inclusive processes and institutions and founded VLW at the age of 21. With a strong focus on challenging societal and cultural norms and utilizing traditional and historical role models Alaa champions women’s participation in peace processes and conflict mediation. Her programs, such as the groundbreaking “Noor Campaign” have been replicated internationally.

She currently serves as a trustee for The Malala Fund, International Alert, Malaria No More, Keeping Children Safe and is an advisor to ConnectHer. Named The New York Times “International Trust Women Hero 2014”, Alaa is an Ashoka Fellow, Alaa is the youngest Marisa Bellisario International Humanitarian Award recipient, a Newsweek “25 under 25 to watch”, a BBC News “100 Top Woman”, the 2015 SAFE Global Hero and a Virgin Unite Changemaker.
